This year I held back and kept myself from going too crazy with the holiday home decor. I bought a few new things, uncovered pieces I bought last year and pulled it all together for a little bit of holiday cheer in the major rooms we live in. The biggest thing we did this year was purchasing a new faux tree. While I love a real tree and we did it for years growing up, there is just something so easy about an artificial tree when you have little ones. We picked up this pre-lit 7 foot tree from Home Depot and it comes with color changing lights and a remote control so we can sit on the couch and change the settings when we’re bored.
We’ve lived in our house for 2 years now but it will be the third Christmas we’ve spent in our home. I’m slowly adding to my collection of what our holiday decor will look like in the years to come. We just purchased furniture for our “formal” living room and I’m still unsure of what I want it to look like for the holidays, with the exception of our new tree.
My main goal when it comes to holiday home decor is picking neutrals or pieces that play off the color schemes I have in those rooms. I also like picking pieces that I can keep out past Christmas. There’s nothing worse than tearing down the tree, all the ornaments and everything Christmas/Holiday related and all the cheer is gone. Instead pick up a few pieces that are wintery but holiday themed that can carry on through January.
Star candles are neutral enough to keep out all year round but perfect for the holidays too.
I love these multi colored light up trees for the girls rooms.
Felt garland is an easy way to add a touch of holiday cheer without being too over the top.
Adding some different texture with glass trees and bottle brush trees has become my new thing. I had our entire mantle covered with them until I got the disapproving look from Adam. I was trying to create a winter forest but he didn’t see my vision.
